the item has light marks on and in it that indicate it has previously been assembled and used, but it does seem clean and does not have a noticeable odour *please note* one of the round peices on the bottom of the poles is missing, should not effect function, but may increase likely hood of puncturing; use tape or glue or other to wrap/smooth
